And it’s about to get a lot hotter. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for most of Massachusetts for at least the next three days. Temperatures are supposed to be above 90 degrees all over the state, with high humidity likely making Thursday and Friday feel like it’s over 100. In other words, it’s going to be dangerously hot!

Children and the elderly are at risk for heat exhaustion, as is anyone who spends any time outside. Take precautions like wearing light clothing, staying indoors and keeping hydrated. More information on what to do during a heat emergency can be found here.

Cities and towns across the state are opening cooling centers and extending the hours of public pools in an effort to combat the heat.  Libraries and senior centers in most cities have been set up as cooling stations for those without air conditioning. A detailed list of the cooling centers in the cities of New Bedford and Boston can be found below.
